About mycountry.io

A curiosity-driven platform for exploring the world through its people.

What is mycountry.io?

mycountry.io is a platform where people share what makes their country unique — food, culture, traditions, landmarks, music, and everyday life. Others discover things they never knew existed.

Why we built it

Most social platforms optimise for outrage and engagement. We wanted something different — a place driven by genuine curiosity. Where a person from Nigeria can share why Jollof Rice matters, a person from Japan can explain Omotenashi, and someone from Iceland can show you what the midnight sun actually looks like.

No likes. No followers. No leaderboard. Just discovery.

How it works

  • Sign up and post videos, photos, facts, or blog articles about your country
  • Browse the global feed or dive into any country's page
  • Hit “I Learned Something” when a post teaches you something new
  • Save posts to your Passport — your profile fills with flag stamps as you discover countries
  • Answer the daily question and see how the world responds

What you can post

Posts on mycountry.io are organised around four formats — short videos that show daily life, photo galleries of places and people, fact cards that teach a single specific thing about a country, and longer blog articles for deeper dives. Each post is tied to a country, so anyone exploring that country sees what real residents and travellers have shared. There is no algorithm pushing inflammatory content; the feed surfaces posts by recency and by “learned something” reactions, which means thoughtful, well-explained posts naturally rise to the top.

The Passport feature

Your Passport is a personal record of every country you have learned something about. Save a post and the country's flag is added as a stamp on your profile. It is a small detail, but it turns curiosity into a visible journey — many users tell us they actively seek out countries they have never visited just to fill in their Passport. Daily questions appear in the feed and let you compare your answer against responses from people across the world, in real time.
